July 22: Spectacular Lavaux Wine Region - UNESCO Listed

Switzerland is a visual feast - we have been impressed from day one - but we were knocked out by the sights in this area at the western end of Lec Leman.

We began a 100 klm trek from Geneva to Montreux at 8.00 AM.  We made good time back to Lausanne, when the rain returned.  We had 25 klm to go when the road pointed up to the UNESCO listed Lavaux wine region.  We considered staying on the flat highway and giving the vines a miss - three hours later we were glad we took to the hills.

Photographs taken in the overcast conditions struggle to do justice to the great expanse of vines that covered the hills and ran to the lake's edge

Onwards and upwards, but we felt no pain - the views, despite rain and cloud, were exhilarating.

Views to die for.
